Loretta Norris Jones, or Retta
as she is known in art circles, began her formal
art career rather informally and, she says,
quite by accident, doing decorative painting for
a select group of friends whenever they had a
request. A totally self-taught artist,
she toyed with the idea of perhaps doing a
"real" painting for herself long before
actually putting a brush to canvas. But once
she started painting, she says she "could
not stop." And when this former free-lance
writer began dabbling in acrylics rather than
words, she discovered yet another creative
outlet for her passions and studioretta was
birthed.
"I was painting just for me -- for the
enjoyment, for the gratification, for the
challenge. I never dreamed I would be
painting for others or doing commissioned
works," she says. "This was just something
I wanted to do for my own personal
satisfaction, but it has mushroomed rapidly,
and I am flattered that others actually
enjoy these works I have created. It
overwhelms me to think about that."
